Guest Speakers
Annamaria Echeverria, Fuels Specialist for the US Forest Service discussed the TLPOA Environmental Study, including tree and sagebrush thinning, starting in September & October near Doc & Al’s. Fall of 2014 they will do a small treatment including burning in the Twin Lakes Flat area. Annamaria encouraged property owners to create a defensible space around their cabins, so that in case of fire, firecrew will be able to have accessibility to keep their properties safe.
John Hicks, the TLPOA Fire Safe Council chair, said the Council has $1,250 in savings toward a chipping day, and requested TLPOA fund a 2nd day in the same amount. Chipping days are Sept 10 & 11. Property owners who want to participate should stack tree limbs ready to be chipped at their road, including no construction lumber, sagebrush, pine needles or pinecones. Ryan Stone, Fire Prevention Officer for the US Forest Service, will do free inspection checks for fire safety around owner’s properties, which may help with insurance costs. He may be reached at 760-932-7070. Annual year-round clean wood coupons for the dump are available through Rockey Reed, John Hicks and Diane Wilson.
Rockey asked, members to fill out an “Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Survey-Connect on the wild side!”, hoping there will be enough interest so the valley may get an internet cable, connecting to the one being installed along Hwy 395. This form can be downloaded from the TLPOA web site. Rockey is in touch with the Lower Twin Lakes Resort and Mono Village, hoping they will be interested as well.
Larry Schwartz spoke about the 2012 flood damage, letting us know Supervisor Tim Fesko is investigating having the county do an engineering study on the drainage and affected homeowners will hire a contractor to reshape the drainage.
